More information about each room

The Silver Room is a unique and impressive room hire venue that captures the long history of the Birmingham Assay Office at the forefront of the precious metal industry.

This unique function room plays host to a large proportion of the Assay Office’s impressive Private Silver Collection, including a variety of pieces designed and manufactured by our founder and leading member of the industrial revolution in Birmingham, Matthew Boulton.

At 807 SQ FT, this function room can be utilised as a classy drinks’ reception or networking space for up to 40 people. This rare room, with its traditional, wooden furniture provides the “WOW” factor contrast to the contemporary decor throughout the rest of the Assay Office.

The Boulton Room is ideal for a board meeting or as an impressive breakout area from one of the Elkington suite rooms to reinvigorate and refresh delegates during a lunch break. The space can be used for meetings or a private dining experience for up to 14 people and is a perfect place for a networking event with plenty to be admired and discussed by guests.

For our private dining experience, we partner with a local catering company, that provides hot highly rated food. The experience can also include waiter service and a visit from our onsite Curator who can talk through our Silver pieces.

A unique space laden with Birmingham history, the Boulton Room is a perfect choice for a range of different events and offers a unique and memorable experience, chronicling the history of the innovative design and manufacture of silver in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter since 1773. The Private collection is rarely open to the public, adding special status and kudos to every event held here.

The Foyer is a bright, modern space that is fully flexible and can be utilised for a variety of different events.

At 1234 SQ FT, the space can hold up to 120 people for networking events, drinks receptions, or social gathering. Fully equipped with AV Equipment and microphone and speaker system, The Foyer is a brilliant option for a whole host of different events. More than its purely practical benefits, the Foyer is also an attractive event space because of its unique properties and emotional resonances of the Jewellery Quarter’s long history. Its contemporary architectural design is juxtaposed by glass cabinets featuring antique items from across the assay office’s rich history.

The past and present are tied together in the Guardian Timepiece, a striking functional clock designed around the molecular structure of a gold atom which overhangs the spacious foyer. Designed and manufactured to encapsulate both the Birmingham Assay Office’s industrial past and also its innovative future in the precious metal and jewellery industry, the Guardian is an impressive and interesting feature in a unique architectural space.

We have recently used the Foyer space to host the Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design exhibition. The event was attended by 60 people, all of which received drinks and canapés. We exhibited the beautiful pieces in the secure glass cabinets for everyone to view. The Mayor was in attendance and was able to speak to the audience using our speaker system. We had waitress service to make sure that no glasses were empty. This is just an example of a first class event that we could help you arrange.

The 499 SQ FT Technical Training Class Room is a bright, modern room, set out in a classroom style for 10 people. Fully equipped with AV equipment and Smart TV, the room is a flexible and convenient space that can be utilised as a workshop or training classroom for seminars, classes, or courses.

Our technical training class room is used for the majority of the training courses we offer. Our tutors like to use the room because it only holds 10 people and provides a more interactive training session.

The training classroom could be used for most types of training. The worksurface is clear for laptop use, microscopes, even small bits of craft.

The room includes a sink, worksurface and access to the mezzanine balcony breakout area. Hard surfaces and floor with coving. Full window blinds which make it ideal for our gemstone training courses.

If you are looking for function room in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter for your next meeting, then Elkington 1 is the perfect meeting room venue for you. Elkington 1 can be set up in boardroom style and comes with a projector, screen with the added option of a laptop if required.

Used in conjunction with Elkington 2 there is an opportunity to meet and then lunch in an adjacent private space via an inter-connecting door. Likewise, it is easy to break out into two separate groups during a course or meeting without any fuss if Elkington 1 and Elkington 2 are used together.

Both rooms can also be booked singly with the opportunity to break out into the impressive Silver Room for lunch or smaller groups.

Our Elkington 2 function room is perfect for a board meeting for up to 18 people, a cabaret layout of 12 people or even a long u shape of 10 people. The meeting room can be used on its own or in conjunction with the adjoining Elkington 1 function room.

We have regular clients that book both the Elkington 1 and Elkington 2. With the first room being set up for the meeting and the second room set up as a breakout area for lunch or other items on the meeting agenda.

Across the corridor from the Elkington 2 meeting room is our impressive Boulton Room (Silver Room). This room can also be used in conjunction with either Elkington 1 or 2, for lunch or coffee breaks. A unique space displaying our silver collection.

Brief coffee breaks can also be taken on the light and airy balcony overlooking the foyer and the impressive Guardian Timepiece designed and made to commemorate the first meeting of the Birmingham Assay Office Wardens’, 250 years ago.
