New Specialist Silverware Valuation Service

As part of The Birmingham Assay Office, SafeGuard are particularly well placed to value silverware.
Valuing antique silver is a very different practice from valuing jewellery for insurance replacement and a new valuation product is being developed to give customers the information they need in an appropriate format.
The Silverware valuation will be launched in early March, offering a comprehensive, detailed description of the piece, supported by one main photograph. Additional images of points of particular note or interest such as the hallmark, hinges, feet or particularly intricate decoration will also be included.
Any known provenance will be noted and detailed where this has an impact on the value. Creating such a document can require extensive, time consuming research as well as specialist expertise and Silverware valuations will therefore be priced according to the complexity of the piece, with a set minimum fee for standard items. Valuer Craig O’Donnell, SafeGuard’s silver specialist is looking forward to delivering the new service. “I find researching silver fascinating” says Craig. “It can sometimes take hours to really be sure you have identified a piece correctly, particularly if there is a possibility it has been altered or modified and been altered or modified and it is very satisfying to know you have finally solved the mystery. The new presentation gives us scope to provide bigger more detailed images for the customer which will prove very useful if the piece is damaged or stolen in the future.
Antiques come in and out of fashion which can affect their value dramatically and you really need
to keep up to date to be sure items are valued and insured correctly.”
The new service will be available direct from The Birmingham Assay Office, on Home visits and at SafeGuard events around the UK.
