REGULATION OF THE COUNCIL MADE THE 14th NOVEMBER, 1979, IN ACCORDANCE WITH PART III, PARAGRAPH 6 (a). OF- SCHEDULE 2 TO THE HALLMARKING ACT 1973 RELATING TO THE HALLMARKING OF CERTAIN ARTICLES COMPRISED PARTLY OF PRECIOUS METAL AND PARTLY OF BASE METAL.
1 The use of base metal parts. set out in the Schedule hereto in articles otherwise comprised of precious metal is authorised in accordance with Part III paragraph 6 (a) of Schedule 2 to the Hallmarking Act, 1973 to the extent set out in the Schedule hereto subject to the following conditions:-
(1) the base metal parts are not joined to the precious metal by solder or adhesive or by welding except in the case of parts set out in paragraphs (b) (lll) and (b) (lV) of the Schedule hereto, or where it has been shown to the satisfaction of an Assay Office in the United Kingdom, signified in writing by that Assay Office, that the base metal parts arc required to be joined to the precious metal by solder or adhesive or by welding for technical reasons.
(2) base metal clips for pens or pencils are readily detachable from the precious metal part of the article
(3) the base metal part is struck with the word "metal" in manner consonant with Regulations of the Council, unless that part it clearly distinguishable in appearance by its colour from any part which is of precious metal.
2 The use of a base metal part not set out in the Schedule hereto in an article otherwise comprised of precious metal is authorised, if it has been shown to the satisfaction of an Assay Office in the United Kingdom signified in writing by that Assay Office, that it is reasonably required to be made of base metal to fulfil the purpose for which the article is designed to be used and it satisfies the conditions set out in paragraph I above.
THE SCHEDULE before referred to The base metal part is one of the following categories:-
(a) In Silver Articles only
(l) Pins for brooches
(ll) Clips for pens or pencils
(b) In Gold, Silver and Platinum Articles
(l) Springs, provided it is shown that the spring is not used principally for strengthening or weighting and that the weight of the spring does not exceed 20% of the weight of the article.
(ll) Pinning wire for joints of hinges
(lll) Blades of knives, bowls of spoons and prongs of forks
(lV) Those parts of bottle openers, corkscrews and similar articles where precious metals are unsuitable for technical reasons
(V) Movements for propelling pencils, internal mechanisms of lighters and similar working parts where precious metals are unsuitable for technical reasons
(Vl) Tensions bars on drums
(Vll) Wards of keys
(Vlll) Magnets
(lX) Rods for keys, associated pivot pins. pad retaining screws on keys and retaining screws for rollers of flutes
(X) Burners of spirit lamps for kettle stands
This Regulation took effect on the 14ih November, 1979, from which date Regulation Number 1A was withdrawn. |
