Quarterly Hallmarking Figures / July to September 2010
FORECASTING A WHITE CHRISTMAS
Hallmarking volumes were again down, dropping by
230,000 units against the same quarter last year,
decreasing to 3.64 million items. Most of the decline was in gold, high prices driving volume down by 14% or
220,000 Units. Palladium compared poorly with 2010
when many retailers were recalling stock for the newly registered hallmark. Silver remained strong maintaining
last year’s volumes and representing 57% of articles
hallmarked- a trend that looks set to continue.
