Quarterly Hallmarking Figures / July - September 2006
HALLMARKING NUMBERS DOWN ACROSS ALL CATEGORIES
The total number of articles hallmarked across the 4 UK Assay Offices in the third quarter of 2006 was down 16.3% on the previous year with reductions in all three precious metal categories.
The volume categories of 9ct gold and Sterling Silver continue to be particularly badly affected. The hallmarking numbers breakdown as follows:
Gold: Total number of articles hallmarked was 3,960,549 – 17.0% down compared to the
same period in 2005.
Silver: Total number of articles hallmarked was 1,910,809 – 15% down and Platinum
total number of articles hallmarked was 73,389 – down 10.8%.
