Quarterly Hallmarking Figures / April to June 2011
HALLMARKING VOLUMES CONTINUE TO DECLINE...
Hallmarking figures showed a further serious decline in
the second quarter with total volumes down 29.6%,
950,000 units less than 2010.
This followed a drop of 12.6% in the first quarter
and reflects the combined impact of the squeeze
on disposable income and the soaring metal prices which particularly affected silver after prices
rocketed to over £29 per ounce in April. Despite this
silver still represented 55% of the articles hallmarked.
Work dealt with by the Assay Offices of Great Britain, for the Quarter April to June 2011.
