DIGBY, LORD JONES OF BIRMINGHAM, KT MINISTER OF STATE FOR TRADE AND INVESTMENT ADDRESSES THE GUARDIANS OF THE BIRMINGHAM ASSAY
Digby, Lord Jones of Birmingham, spoke today of his commitment to his new role as Minster of State for Trade and Industry, his desire to include his home City of Birmingham in his title and his pride in being able to “do something” for the country.
Speaking in a private address to the Guardians of The Birmingham Assay Office, following their Annual General Meeting , Lord Jones recounted his first experiences as a Lord and a Government Minister in his own inimitable style. He expressed how privileged he felt to sit in the House of Lords amongst so much experience and expertise and his determination to give the people of Britain a more secure future. Describing Britain as “the most globally engaged country on earth” Lord Jones quantified the huge amount of investment from countries as diverse as India, Germany and the USA which is already pouring into Britain and he is clearly working hard in his new role to increase this further.
Recently arrived on a flight back from India, Lord Jones recounted some of the compliments he had already received from investors who appreciate the British acceptance and welcome for overseas investors, and the desire to make an enterprise work, regardless of the nationality of the money which is backing it.
Reflecting on the Annual Report of TheBirmingham Assay Office, enthusiastically delivered by Chief Executive Michael Allchin, Lord Jones finished his talk on an upbeat note for the Assay Office. “Value added innovation, branding and good quality are crucial for developed nations to move forward” he said. “The Birmingham Assay Office is clearly demonstrating all of these and the results speak for themselves; I wish you all every success”.
