A celebration of birmingham silver - Added 13.05.08
The Birmingham Assay Office is holding a unique exhibition within the Office, on Tuesday 10th June 2008.
To coincide with the first British Silver Week, a national event to highlight the talents of contemporary British Silversmiths, The Birmingham Assay Office will showcase pieces which demonstrate the development of Birmingham silver during the past 235 years.

The exhibition will feature the work of leading contemporary silverware designers and manufacturers including Martyn Pugh, Wally Gilbert, Esther Lord, L. J. Millington, Regent Silversmiths and F.G.H. Products. There will also be a rare opportunity to see The Birmingham Assay Officefs unique Private Collection, featuring eighteenth century pieces from its founder Matthew Boulton.
Craftsmen and experts from The Birmingham Assay Office will be on hand to provide more information about the exhibits and the current activities of what is now the largest Assay Office in the world. Guests will be able to admire the impressive original features of the entrance hall and staircase, built in 1877 and browse the Silver Collection at their leisure. Light refreshments will be served throughout.
At 6.00pm Kay Alexander, the Chairman of The Birmingham Assay Office, will officially welcome guests and deliver a short overview of the significance of The Birmingham Assay Office to the Cityfs industrial heritage and its important role at the heart of its world renowned jewellery and precious metal industry.
