JAMES THOMPSON UCE SCHOOL OF JEWELLERY STUDENT WINS
THE BIRMINGHAM ASSAY OFFICE AWARD

james thompsonThe Birmingham Assay Office was pleased to once again provide an Award for the annual Prize Giving to Students at the Birmingham School of Jewellery.  This year’s award was presented to James Thompson, a National Diploma student.

Marie Brennan, said “James has created some excellent work, examples of which can be seen here.  The Medal is beautifully crafted and depicts the tools found at a jewellers workbench.  The silver ‘egg,’ also illustrated, represents the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter including a model of the Chamberlain Clock in the centre along with other symbols of the Quarter, including a pen nib, a whistle, a button and of course an Anchor, the Hallmark of The Birmingham Assay Office”.

silver eggJames was also entered into the British Association Medal Student Competition by the School of Jewellery.   The medal was on exhibition at the Quex Museum in Cantebury recently and later this year it will be part of an exhibition of selected student medals in Japan.
