You will be able to search the database to find out the origins of punchmarks and hallmarks. The Birmingham Assay Office is itself home to a remarkable collection of silverware. The testing and analysis of precious metals has been fundamental to The Assay Office business since it was founded by Act of Parliament over 230 years ago. The Metal Analysis Services provided by The Assay Office’s own Laboratory is widely acknowledged for its expertise and the range of specialist testing procedures it carries out. The considerable investment in industry state of the art equipment and the continuous professional development of its technical personnel will keep the Laboratory at the forefront of industry for many years to come.
