THE BIRMINGHAM ASSAY OFFICE JOINS SPONSORS OF
CONNECT CONFERENCE
The Association of British Designer Silversmiths are hosting CONNECT - an exciting two-day event to be held 6 & 7 July 2007 at Aston University, Birmingham. This event will bring together designers and manufacturers to examine ways in which design, new technology and traditional manufacture can combine to provide an edge in our highly competitive international market.
Headed by Matteo Alessi, the latest generation of the Italian design dynasty, the ABDS has engaged world-class speakers to lead us through a variety of topics some of which include: Tory Dunn on “Creative Thinking for Designers”, Michael McCrory on “Deep drawing silver plate” and Nick Munro whose brand has become synonymous with original, modern British design and which includes pewter, ceramics, glass, furniture and lighting.
Cookson Precious Metals together with The Birmingham Assay Office, Tudor Crystal and Wedgwood have sponsored the ‘CONNECT Collection’, an exhibition of new work by over 40 ABDS members. Many of the pieces have been made using the new sterling alloy ‘Brilliante’ and all have been made in response to a lead crystal cut glass, and a porcelain bowl. The collection will be launched at CONNECT and tour home and abroad for 2 years.
CONNECT is an ideal way for designer makers, manufacturers, retailers, gallery owners and collectors to engage with current trends in design and manufacture and to network. More information on the programme, the speakers and a booking form is available on the website: www.connect07.co.uk
