International Jewellery London show THE GREAT DEBATE

IJL The Great Debate – working together to deliver an ethical supply chain

Retail Strategies for Success in an Economic Downturn

IJLFollowing the success of The Great Debate in 2007 and 2008, The Birmingham Assay Office will once again be staging the 2009 event at the International London Jewellery Show, in partnership with Reed Exhibitions.

Previous debates on ethical issues for the trade have concluded that the jewellery trade should do more. Now the question is exactly what can we do to make progress?

The challenges of Corporate Social Responsibility and particularly ethical issues continue, despite the trade being focussed on the downturn in business and the economic climate. Reduced demand for diamonds and precious metals are in themselves likely to exacerbate problems throughout the supply chain, and the ethical issues are not going to go away.

This year’s Great Debate will be chaired by Liz Barclay, presenter of BBC Radio 4’s flagship consumer programme “You and Yours”.

The event will take a different format this year.  The Debate will be an open forum where members of the jewellery industry can share their experiences in trying to deliver an ethically responsible supply chain in line with consumer demand.  Liz Barclay will Chair this “round the table” discussion, which should allow more people to be able to have their say.

Come and meet fellow pioneers, exchange views, ideas and problems and help industry colleagues from companies large and small find ways of achieving this goal.

The price of admission is participation; all delegates will have the opportunity to speak and places are therefore very limited.

Book a place NOW to ensure you are part of this first hand exchange of important information. To enquire further contact gem@theassayoffice.co.uk, or phone 0871 871 6020 and ask about The Great Debate.

The Great Debate will take place on Monday 7th September in the Whitehall Room inside Earls Court II during The International Jewellery Show.  The debate will start at 4.30pm and will run until 6.00pm.
