Laboratory Vacancies

The Birmingham Assay Office is looking to recruit ‘Analytical Chemist (Inorganic)’, ‘Sr. Analytical Chemist (Organic)’ and two ‘Administrative/Laboratory Assistants’ to work within their Laboratory.

Analytical Chemist (Inorganic) – the successful candidate must be an experienced analyst who will be required to prepare samples and operate ICP-OES and other analytical instrumentation on a day to day basis.

Sr. Analytical Chemist (Organic) - the successful candidate must be experienced in testing azo dyes, phthalates & organo-tin compounds and other organic testings. The successful applicant will be required to carry these Testing procedures on a routine basis therefore candidates with good expertise in organic particularly in above testings should apply.

Administrative / Laboratory Assistant (Two Posts) - Administrative duties primarily include typing & preparing Test Reports, booking work on to the computer system, liaising with Customers, invoicing, filing and packing work for posting. Laboratory duties include Scraping metals & non-metals samples, XRF testing & screening, nickel testing procedures and precious metal analysis, working between the administrative and testing areas according to daily requirements. 

Full training will be given but applicants must have a scientific background with a minimum qualification of A -level Chemistry or equivalent.  Computer literacy and good typing speed is a necessity.

37 hours per week, requiring good team work, a ‘can-do’ attitude, flexibility and the ability to work to tight deadlines. Competitive salaries are offered according to experience.
