Quick Nickel - Nickel Testing

Quick, inexpensive, accurateintroducing the new nickel test you have been waiting for

The UK Nickel regulations have been in force for over six years and most products tested by The Laboratory at The Birmingham Assay Office now prove to be compliant. Many importers, retailers and wholesalers have invested significant time and money to achieve this and many now regard testing to BS EN 1811, as stipulated in the legislation, to be a costly formality which delays lead times unnecessarily.

After extensive research from our established team of nickel experts, The Birmingham Assay Office is pleased to offer you a brand new, inexpensive, Quick Nickel test to resolve this problem.

In response to customer demand we have developed a test which accurately identifies items which would definitely pass BS EN 1811 and comply with the UK Nickel regulations. The test can be completed within three days and at a very low price, giving you a result for up to five individual components for only £25.00 and £3.00/additional component.

The Quick Test is based upon the principles of the screening test PR EN 12471. However, while the screening test has been proven to be only 84% accurate, the new Birmingham Assay Office method is 98.5% accurate, and we can confidently offer it as an option when testing items to confirm they will pass BS EN 1811.

If an item does not indicate a clear pass from the quick test it may be categorised as a  FAIL, or, if there is any doubt about the outcome, the result will recommend resubmission for the full BS EN 1811 test. Up to 40% of those items resubmitted may still pass BS EN 1811.  At present we do not recommend this test for post assemblies, where the permitted release levels is only 0.2 micrograms per centimetre squared per week.

If you would like to trial this test please request the “Quick Nickel Test” when you submit your samples. If you would like more information please contact Tim Smith on 0121 262 1036 or
