Over the past 12 months the Jewellery Quarter Association, Jewellery Quarter Neighbourhood Forum, Jewellery Quarter Marketing Initiative and the Jewellery Quarter Trade Alliance, along with The Birmingham Assay Office, have all been working together.
We have been developing a vehicle that will take the Jewellery Quarter forward following the demise of the Jewellery Quarter Regeneration Partnership. These groups have proved themselves over the past 20 years so the Jewellery Quarter will be in safe hands.

On Wednesday 4th May the official documentation was signed for the formation of the Jewellery Quarter Development Trust (JQDT). It has the full support of Birmingham City Council and the first board meeting will be held in June to formulate plans for the future.

David Mahony from PCPT Architects, currently Chairman of the Jewellery Quarter Association will become Chairman of the JQDT.

We want everyone in the Jewellery Quarter to embrace the good work that the JQDT will carry out examples of which are to
· maintain and provide an attractive, clean and safe environment
· improve the economic well being of the area
· provide better amenities, facilities and cultural activities and visitor attractions
· encourage initiatives that provide high quality, sustainable and affordable housing
· promote and enhance the unique industrial heritage
· work with Birmingham City Council in the development of a Business Improvement District for the Jewellery Quarter

Over the next few months there will be lots to do but we will keep you informed as we go along. There will be a website, articles in the paper, a launch in September and information that we will distribute to you as the JQDT builds momentum.
Visit www.jqdt.org for the latest update and please feel free to give us your feedback.

Please respond to gem@theassayoffice.co.uk until the JQDT gets its own e mail address.
